ADHD & Me

Welcome to the Chaos Goblin' s slice of the internet, where I share what it's like living with ADHD as an adult.

Getting diagnosed with ADHD as an adult felt like finally finding the missing piece to a puzzle I didn't know I was solving.

My blog is full of personal stories, tips, and hopefully something to make you laugh.

Curious about ADHD, newly diagnosed, or just need a good read...

Impulsivity

Impulsivity means you often act before you think. You interrupt people, make spontaneous buys, and jump into things without planning. It can lead to awkward moments, empty wallets, and disrupted routines. It’s like your brain hits the gas before checking if there’s fuel in the tank.

Hyperfocus

ADHD Hyperfocus means you get so absorbed in a task that everything else fades away. You might skip meals, ignore calls, and lose track of time completely. It's like the world around you disappears, and you're locked onto one thing for hours. While it can be great for productivity, it often leaves you scrambling to catch up on everything else you’ve neglected. If someone interrupts you, the snap back to reality can make you feel irritable or even angry, like being jolted awake from a deep sleep.

Time Blindness

You often lose track of time, making it hard to stick to schedules. You might underestimate how long tasks take, causing you to be late or miss deadlines. It's like time slips through your fingers, leaving you constantly playing catch-up. For you, it's either "right now" or "some time in the future," with no real comprehension of in-between moments. This can lead to stress, frustration, and a sense of always being one step behind. Plus, when others rely on you, your time mismanagement can strain relationships and add extra pressure to your daily life.

RSD

Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD) with ADHD means you experience intense emotional pain from perceived rejection or criticism. Even minor feedback feels like a crushing blow, triggering your fight-or-flight response and sending you spiraling into overwhelming hurt or explosive anger at the slightest hint of disapproval. It's like your emotions are on a hair trigger, ready to go off at any moment. This can turn relationships into minefields, where you’re constantly on edge, terrified of being judged or abandoned. The fear of rejection can paralyze you, stopping you from taking risks or trying new things, and leaving you isolated and stuck in a constant state of anxiety and self-doubt. The emotional rollercoaster of RSD makes everyday interactions feel like battles, draining your energy and joy, as you fight against the urge to flee or lash out whenever you sense potential rejection.
